Here is a little background on our youth ministry and why we call outselves the 'Alien Uth':

why are we called the alien*uth? it all goes back to a song by the band Skillet. they had a song called Alien Youth off of the 2001 album titled (appropriately) Alien Youth. The song has these lyrics:

If you get the gist - the song is about how young people who are devoted followers of Jesus might be refered to as 'freaks'. (back in the day - when most of you were toddlers and i was a senior in college, there was this super huge song called Jesus Freak [click to watch that cool video, too] by the band dcTalk which featured TobyMac. The song challenged one and all to be a true disciple of Jesus - and to be a 'freak' about it - not worrying what people might think.) To be a 'freak' or a passionate follower of Christ - you will be an outcast... kind of like an alien... you wont belong. But the 'alien youth' can take over and take a stand for their faith - and try to impact the people they come into contact with. There is this old quote: Stand up for something, even if your standing alone. But it is a lot better when you know someone has your back. The Alien Youth are called to stand up together. Here is our theme verse: Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:11-12 Alien Youth are called to abstain from sin. We are called to be different... to not be like the negative culture out there. We must set an example of love in all we do. That is the big challenge. So check out the song video links.
